Rutland Senior School utilizes an automated student attendance management system called SafeArrival, offered through SchoolMessenger® notification system. If your student has an unexcused absence during the day, you will receive an email notification during the evening informing you of the absence. The School Messenger program is also used to email important school information to families.  It if very important to have to have correct phone numbers and email addresses on file. Please notify the school of any email address or phone number changes.

If your student is going to be absent all day, partial day,  arrive late or will be required to leave school early please report the absence using 1 of the following methods:

1) SchoolMessenger App (*Preferred method – easy to access from your device and offers alternate language options)

Using your mobile device, download and install the SchoolMessenger app from the Apple App Store    or the Google Play Store. First time use, you will need to create an account and then you can proceed to enter absences selecting the absence date and type. (ie: absence, late arrival or early dismissal)  Please create a PIN number to provide an extra layer of security. Your student ​will still need to sign out at the front office if leaving early during the day to ensure that you have reported the early dismissal.  Video link:  How to Sign Up

2) School Messenger - SafeArrival Parent Portal

Using the SafeArrival website, go to: go.schoolmessenger.ca. First time use, you will need to create an account and then you can proceed to enter absences selecting the absence date and type. (ie: absence, late arrival or early dismissal). Please create a PIN number to provide an extra layer of security. Your student will still need to sign out at the front office if leaving early to ensure that you have reported the early dismissal.

Tip!  If you are aware of future absences, you can enter them ahead of time and you won't have to remember to do so on the day of absence!

3) Phoning the school – Due to the large population of students, we ask that you use the above preferred methods to report your student's absence. If you choose to use the phone – call 250-870-5110 and you will need to press "1" to reach the attendance line or you will be transferred to this attendance line by the reception staff.   We appreciate your assistance and thank you in advance!
